About Me
I am Cally Peck, I go to Johnson High School and I mentor at Friendship Elementary school. My Mentor's name is Ms. Catledge and she teaches third grade English class. Ms. Catledge was my teacher all throughout Middle School and I am glad that I got the opportunity to have her as my mentor throughout my High School career.

What does Everyday look like?

What have I learned?
|
I have a full schedule from first to second period. First and second I am taking college classes. Third and fourth I am taking math and U.S. History. Then for fifth and sixth I get the opportunity to go to Friendship elementary school and mentor a third grade classroom. My seventh period id back at Johnson taking a forensics class. During those two class periods that I am at friendship I get a great experience of what being in a third grade classroom would look like. I do everything from grading papers to making sure the kids stay on task. Some days I help put papers in Tuesday folders, other I help answer any questions the students may have. It is a great experience to see what all the job of teaching a third grade classroom entails.

I have learned more than I could imagine with this mentorship. I have learned great ways to stay organized so that none of the student's papers are lost. I learned different strategies on how to keep the class focused. But, not everything that I have leaned has been a blessing. I have also observed that there are a lot of times when the classroom gets out of control and you have to be able to make sure everyone gets back on task. During this mentorship I have learned that teaching a elementary school classroom is no easy task and the decision to become a part of the educations field should be a thought out decision.

How will this help me in my future?
This mentorship takes a great part in my future. When I was a little girl I played "school" all of the time. But through my High School career I have begun to actually consider being a teacher. My only question was, do I teach Elementary School or Middle School? I thought that the Honors Mentorship program would be a great way to answer the question. So far it has been a great help because I now know the benefits and difficulties of being in an Elementary School setting everyday. Not only will this mentorship help me in deciding what grade I want to teach but it will also give me many experience and many skills that I can take into my future job.
